Mechanical model kits made of natural wood

Goldie Oldie

Here is another goldie oldie. The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party was made for the York Automata Museum in about 1987 I think. The beauty of it was that all the mechanisms under the table were made of different woods according to mechanical properties. There were lots of actions such as the Mad Hatter lifting his hat and revealing the doormouse asleep on his head, Alice drank her tea and the rabbit kept checking his pocket watch. This was one of Eric Williamson’s best masterpieces. When the museum closed down it was sold to a Japanese collector, if only we could trace it now! Has anyone ever seen it?
